Historic Wilkinsburg’s 2021 annual Sacred Spaces Arts and Culture Community Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 11th from noon to 7PM, at 710 Mulberry Street.  The Sacred Spaces Tour honors the history of Wilkinsburg, fondly remembered as “The Holy City” where 40 churches and no bars, provided  lively places for people to convene as a strong community.  Today roughly 20 churches remain operational.

The 2021 event celebrates history, arts, and culture, featuring in-person tours of 4 historic landmark churches, a virtual series of 6 additional historical church videos to be released soon; Office of Public Art's Environment, Health, and Public Art Initiative including 3 public artists creatively engaging the community through the arts; 6 Pittsburgh bands including Outside Elisa and Murder for Girls; Shana Simmons Dance; and The Wilkinsburg Community Ministries food festival.  A full schedule of events is available on the Center for Civic Arts’ Facebook and website https://civicarts211.wixsite.com/website-1

The 2021 Sacred Spaces Tour is a collaboration between Preservation Pittsburgh, Center for Civic Arts, and The Wilkinsburg Historical Society, with support from Neighborhood Allies’ Love Your Neighbor Grant.
