Music at Center for Civic Arts

James blowing into the one remaining metal pipe,  and standing in front of a few wood pipes.

Wood Wind Project

A Pittsburgh musician and new media artist, James Gyre, is recording the sounds from the wood pipes that remain from a once vacant church organ. Gyre is tuning and arranging the sounds into a Musical Digital Interface (MIDI) instrument, sample sound kits and new compositions. The almost-lost sounds of these pipes will be compiled in accessible formats to be shared locally, regionally, nationally.  Click below to listen to an original composition by James Gyre using 100 year old wood pipes.  The image below is what the pipe organ look like in 1975.

Center for Civic Arts provides a venue for local bands to perform in affordable spaces, build their audiences, professional experience, their brands, take risks, and collaborate with other bands.  Hallowed Grounds Concert featured Outside Eliza, Deep Casual, and Chaibaba.  Dancing is also encouraged.   Other new bands, such as the Ames Harding Band covets the historic ambience of the once sacred spaces as a back drop for studio recording sessions.

A Love Cry

Speak your peace!

A Hip Hop culture song & scrapbook during a pandemic and protest.

Facilitated by award-winning Hip Hop producer and teaching artist Akil Esoon.

What it is; We will use Zoom to create a 10 day, 45 minute session online, all ages, internationally.

Community members will voice how they feel and what we’ve  been going through during these difficult and trying times set to classic Hip Hop music and cultural themes.

The pain

the rage

the organizing

the healing

the rising

Participants will learn how to take real feelings and emotions turn them into raw Hip Hop

music, dance and visual art.

Our overarching goal; We want to help amplify voice by providing a platform utilizing YouTube and other social media sites to inspire the masses and to offer a

legacy for the community in the form of solutions set to Hip Hop music and culture.
